The Bleeding Child
If your child has sustained an injury and is bleeding more than can be controlled by using a small plaster then they are bleeding heavily and you need to take the following steps to stop your child going into shock.
Grab a clean cloth or whatever material you have available and apply firm direct pressure to the wound.
Call an ambulance by dialling 999 in the UK or 112 anywhere else in the world.
Continue to apply pressure to the wound until help arrives.
Being prepared
The Children’s e-Hospital has developed a first aid kit specifically with children in mind. This kit has over 50 parts and also includes flash cards to assist you in the event of having to deal with a choking child and other resuscitation situations
